Patient receiving eye drops during dry eye treatment at Avon Eye Care

Avon Eye Care

Dry Eye Clinic

A dedicated clinic for patients who are done masking symptoms. We find the cause. We treat it properly.

Not Just Artificial Tears

Dry Eye Deserves a Real Diagnosis

Dry eye disease affects millions of people — and most of them have been told to just use artificial tears. But dry eye is a medical condition with identifiable causes, and treating those causes produces lasting relief that drops alone cannot provide.

Our Dry Eye Clinic is led by Dr. Harneet McDermott, who specializes in advanced dry eye care. Every patient receives a thorough diagnostic evaluation before any treatment begins. No guessing. No one-size-fits-all approach.

Your Path to Relief

How the Clinic Works

01

Comprehensive Evaluation

We begin with a detailed symptom history and review of medications, environment, and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your dry eye.

02

Advanced Diagnostic Testing

Using InflammaDry, tear break-up time, Schirmer's testing, and meibomian gland evaluation, we identify exactly what type of dry eye you have and how severe it is.

03

Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on your test results, we build a targeted plan — from prescription drops and punctal plugs to in-office procedures — designed to address the root cause, not just the symptoms.

04

Ongoing Monitoring

Dry eye is a chronic condition. We schedule follow-up visits to track your progress, adjust your treatment, and ensure you're maintaining long-term relief.

How We Evaluate You

Diagnostics

Every treatment plan begins with an objective evaluation. We use advanced technology to identify exactly what type of dry eye you have before recommending any treatment.

Bruder Ocular Surface Analyzer

Bruder Ocular Surface Analyzer

Our primary diagnostic tool for evaluating the ocular surface and tear film. The Bruder Ocular Surface Analyzer uses advanced imaging to assess tear film stability, lipid layer quality, and meibomian gland structure — giving us a comprehensive, objective picture of your dry eye before any treatment begins.

What We Offer

Treatments

Evidence-based treatments, individualized to your specific type and severity of dry eye — from prescription therapy to advanced in-office procedures.

Collagen Punctal Inserts

Collagen Punctal Inserts

Tiny, biocompatible inserts placed into the tear drainage ducts to keep your natural tears on the eye surface longer. A quick, painless in-office procedure with immediate benefit.

Prescription Therapy

Prescription Therapy

Anti-inflammatory drops such as Restasis and Xiidra target the inflammatory cycle that drives chronic dry eye — reducing symptoms over time rather than just masking them.

Meibomian Gland Expression

Meibomian Gland Expression

Manual expression of the meibomian glands to clear blockages and restore the natural oil layer of the tear film. This hands-on in-office treatment directly addresses the most common root cause of dry eye.

NuLids

NuLids

A gentle, automated lid hygiene device used to stimulate and clean the meibomian gland openings along the eyelid margin. NuLids improves gland function over time and is suitable for daily home use as part of a complete dry eye management plan.

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate meibomian gland activity, reduce periocular inflammation, and improve tear film stability. A non-invasive, in-office treatment with no downtime.

IPL & RF Therapy

IPL & RF Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radiofrequency (RF) therapy work together to reduce inflammation, demodex bacteria, and meibomian gland dysfunction. One of the most advanced combined treatments available for moderate to severe evaporative dry eye.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Dry Eye Clinic different from a regular eye exam?
A dedicated dry eye appointment goes much deeper than a routine exam. We spend more time on your symptom history, run specialized diagnostic tests not included in a standard visit, evaluate your meibomian glands, and build a complete treatment plan. If you're coming in specifically for dry eye concerns, this is the right appointment to book.
What causes dry eye?
The most common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction — blocked oil glands that cause tears to evaporate too quickly. Other causes include aging, hormonal changes (especially in women), prolonged screen use, certain medications, contact lens wear, and underlying inflammatory conditions. Our diagnostic process identifies your specific cause so treatment can be targeted accordingly.
Are over-the-counter drops enough?
For very mild cases, quality artificial tears can offer temporary relief. But if you're using drops more than a few times daily, or symptoms are affecting your work, sleep, or contact lens wear, drops alone aren't solving the problem. They don't address inflammation, meibomian gland dysfunction, or other underlying causes.
Is dry eye a permanent condition?
Dry eye is typically a chronic condition, but it is very manageable. With the right treatment plan, most patients achieve significant improvement in comfort and quality of life. Many patients reach a point where their symptoms are well-controlled with minimal ongoing intervention.
Does insurance cover dry eye treatment?
Coverage varies by plan. Many diagnostic tests and prescription treatments are covered under medical insurance (not vision plans). Some in-office procedures may require out-of-pocket payment. We'll discuss the cost of your specific treatment plan at your consultation.
