Urgent Eye Care

When Every Minute Counts

Eye emergencies can happen at any time, and quick treatment often makes the difference between a full recovery and lasting damage. At Avon Eye Care, we provide same-day urgent and emergency eye care for a wide range of conditions. If you're experiencing sudden pain, vision loss, or an eye injury, call our office immediately so we can get you seen as quickly as possible.

Many eye emergencies that would otherwise send you to the ER can be handled right here in our office, often more quickly and with specialized equipment designed specifically for eye care. Our doctors are trained to diagnose and treat acute eye conditions, prescribe medications, remove foreign bodies, and determine when a referral to a specialist is needed.

If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies as an emergency, call us. We would rather evaluate you and provide peace of mind than have you wait and risk a worsening condition.

Conditions We Treat

  • Corneal Abrasions — Scratches to the eye's surface caused by fingernails, contact lenses, paper, or other objects.
  • Foreign Object Removal — Safe removal of metal, wood, glass, or other debris from the eye or under the eyelid.
  • Chemical Burns — Immediate irrigation and treatment after exposure to chemicals, cleaning products, or other irritants.
  • Eye Infections — Diagnosis and treatment of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections including conjunctivitis and keratitis.
  • Flashes & Floaters — Sudden onset of light flashes or floating spots may indicate a retinal tear or detachment requiring urgent evaluation.
  • Sudden Vision Changes — Unexplained blurriness, double vision, or vision loss that requires immediate assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I go to the ER or call you first?
For most eye emergencies, calling us first is the fastest route to specialized care. We can often see you the same day with equipment specifically designed for eye evaluation. If your emergency involves a severe injury, significant bleeding, or you cannot reach us, go directly to the nearest ER.
What should I do if I get a chemical in my eye?
Immediately flush your eye with clean water for at least 15-20 minutes, then call us right away. Do not rub your eye. If possible, bring the product label with you so we know what chemical was involved.
Are new floaters always an emergency?
A sudden increase in floaters, especially when accompanied by flashes of light or a shadow in your peripheral vision, should be treated as urgent. These symptoms can indicate a retinal tear or detachment, which requires prompt evaluation to prevent vision loss.
